Just Dance 4 Lady Gaga Poker Face

'Just Dance' could have been the work of any number of pop stars of the time, but only Gaga had the vision and guts to release something that stood on its own as boldly as 'Poker Face' did, that was so obviously sexually charged but somehow sidestepped and subverted pop's usual terms of engagement for sexuality (something that would become a recurring theme with her best work; Gaga might be the.

Whereas 'Just Dance' was predominately electropop, 'Poker Face' carries a dark sound with clear vocals on the chorus and a pop hook while combining the synths from 'Just Dance' and the more dance-oriented beat of the next single 'LoveGame'.

Hitmixes is the second extended play (EP) by American singer Lady Gaga, released on August 25, 2009. Featuring remixes of songs from Gaga's debut album, The Fame (2008), the album was only released in Canada, by Universal Music Canada. Hitmixes features mixes from various musicians, including RedOne and Space Cowboy, who previously worked with Gaga. The EP hosts 1980s-influenced and house remixes. Hitmixes received positive reviews from the Calgary Herald and Blare Magazine, and peaked at number eight on the Canadian Albums Chart.

Background and composition[edit]

Lady Gaga released her debut album, The Fame, on August 19, 2008;[1] It spawned five singles: 'Just Dance', 'Poker Face', 'Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)', 'LoveGame' and 'Paparazzi'. 'Eh, Eh' was not released in North America, and was not remixed for Hitmixes. The other four singles all reached the top three of the Canadian Hot 100.[2] The album's title track, 'The Fame', was also remixed and included on the EP. Gaga's main producer, RedOne, produced a remix of 'Just Dance' for the record; other producers were Robots to Mars, Chew Fu, Space Cowboy, Moto Blanco and Guéna LG. Hitmixes was released as a compact disc on August 25, 2009 in Canada only by Universal Music Canada.[3][4]Moto Blanco's 'Paparazzi' remix and the Glam as You remix of 'The Fame' have 1980s influences, while the 'LoveGame' Chew Fu Ghettohouse Fix and Space Cowboy's mix of 'Poker Face' feature house styles, including incorporation of trance music and synthesizers.[5]Rock singer Marilyn Manson and rapper Kardinal Offishall contribute additional vocals to the EP as featured artists.[6]

Lady Gaga Poker Face Live

Critical reception[edit]

Due to its Canada-only release, Hitmixes did not receive many professional reviews. The Calgary Herald stated that several tracks were 'artfully and decadently remixed'.[7] Dan Rankin of Blare Magazine gave the EP three-and-a-half stars out of five, saying that the mixes showed 'varying degrees of success'. Rankin especially praised Kardinal Offishall's vocals on the RedOne remix of 'Just Dance' and singled it and the 'LoveGame' Chew Fu Ghettohouse Fix as the best tracks on the album.[5]Hitmixes debuted and peaked on the Canadian Albums Chart at number eight, on the issue dated September 12, 2009.[8][9] The next week it fell to number sixteen, and spent its third and final week on the chart at number twenty-two.[10]

Poker Face is about many things. Lady Gaga has been asked many times the meaning of this song and she has given several different answers.
First and foremost, it is obvious that lyrically Poker Face is about sex and gambling; or more specifically, sex, with the use of gambling metaphors.
On at least one occasion she claimed that the song was about 'how she catches guys'.. that 'the second you let guys know you like them, they run away, so you've gotta keep your poker face.'
However, by far the most interesting interpretation, that Lady Gaga claimed herself in an interview, is that the song is essentially about being bi-curious; she says that 'sometimes, when I was making love to my old boyfriend, I would think about women.' The lyrics 'Bluffin' with my muffin' are metaphorical for 'bluffing' with your vagina. 'I won't tell you that I love you, kiss or hug you'.. In these two verses, Gaga is basically saying that she is having sex with men but doesn't feel any emotional attachment for them whatsoever, to the point where she doesn't even feel ashamed to be thinking about women while having sex with a man.
People assume that, purely because of this song, that Lady Gaga is a 'proven bisexual' or some such. While it matters little to me, all this song really proclaims is the act of being bi-curious. I wouldn't freak out too much about it all.

I read somewhere that this song is about lady gaga actually being interested in women. Qt signals and slots tutorial. not necessarily a lesbian. just curious.
The 'poker face' analogy being that to her boyfriend she obviously looks like she's straight but she's just got a 'poker face' on and is bluffing so that he doesn't find out that she's curious about women.
I also read that it goes as far as when she's having sex with her boyfriend she's thinking about girls but I don't know if you believe that or not to be honest.
